At the same time as DMD was signing a special deal to undertake the global gate service for Emirates at all locations outside Dubai, the division announced significant developments and commitment to its operation in the UAE.
Graham Lilley has relocated to Dubai as DMD's head of the Middle East, Far East and Asia.
DMD has interests in two businesses in Dubai, a joint venture with Jashenmal Group based in the Dubai Airport Freezone known as Dafza, and a fully-owned operation launching soon in another Freezone.
"It shows our real and increasing commitment to this quite amazing region," says DMD's director Phil White.
The Middle East has seen year on year passenger growth of more than 15% in the 12 months from 2006-2007. In millennium year, Dubai welcomed just 12 million passengers. But that figure soared to over 33 million in 2007. And estimated passenger numbers for the year 2010, when Dubai opens a new airport at Jebel Ali (situated between Dubai and Abu Dhabi), suggest the figure will nearly double to circa 60 million!
Elsewhere in the region, Abu Dhabi airport has reached agreement with DMD to provide its DMD rack/gate service throughout the airport.
